Holi (होली)
Holi (होली), is a religious spring festival celebrated by Hindus. Holi is also known as festival of Colours. Holi festival is celebrated on Full Moon day in Phlagun month, Falgun Purnima. Holi is also known as Holi Dhuleti, Dhulandi Holi, Holika, Lathmar Holi, Rang Panchami, Phagu, Dol Yatra, Basantotsav, etc. Holi festival marks the onset of the Spring Season (Vasant Ritu). In 2012 Holi will be celebrated on Thursday, 8 March 2012.
Holi is celebrated for seven to ten days in many holy places in North India. In Mathura, Barsana, and Vrindavan, Holi is celebrated for ten days. It starts with Laddoo Holi and Lathmar Holi in Barsana and continues until Rang Panchami. Holika Dahan also known as Choti Holi, iscelebrated a day prior to Holi. It marks the burning of evils. Holi (Dhulandi) will be on March 08 and Holika Dahan will be on March 07 in 2012.
